How to contact the Fair Work Agency (FWA)
Report serious abuse or exploitation at work
You’re being seriously abused or exploited at work if you believe you’re being controlled, threatened or manipulated. This could be an indicator of modern slavery.
Reporting modern slavery while on a sponsored work visa
If you’re in the UK on a Skilled Worker visa – which is also known as a Certificate of Sponsorship – and believe you’re a victim of modern slavery or serious abuse at work, contact us by:
These are the quickest routes for investigation. The FWA cannot put you on the National Referral Mechanism without investigating.
Call 999 and ask for the police if you think you are at immediate risk of harm.
Try to include:
- what the abuse is
- where it’s happening, or happened
- any relevant pictures or documents
- your name and contact details – we’ll only use these to ask you questions about your report, if needed
You do not need to tell us who you are, but we can support you better if we can contact you.
Information you give will be in confidence and will help protect workers from exploitation.

You can also call us if you think you’re a victim of modern slavery.
This can take longer than using the online reporting form or emailing us.

Calls are free and will be answered between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. You can still call outside of these hours and leave a voice message.
This is not an emergency service number. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the police.
Complain about problems with pay or work rights
Examples of problems with pay or work rights could include:
- working hours
- not being paid the National Minimum Wage
- an issue with an employment agency
- an issue with a gangmaster agency – these are employment providers to agricultural and food processing sectors
