Clinical services unit (CSU): reference and diagnostic services

CSU provides laboratory clinical, reference and surveillance services for HIV-1 and HIV-2, HTLV, HHV-8, hepatitis viruses, MMR, Parvo B19, syphilis.

The clinical services unit (CSU) is part of the UK Health Security Agency’s (UKHSA) virus reference department (VRD). It is part of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Laboratory and Diagnosis Support.

Services available

CSU provides clinical and reference work relating to:

  • HIV-1 and HIV-2
  • hepatitis viruses A,B,C,D and E
  • human T-lymphotropic viruses (HTLV-I and HTLV-II)
  • human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8)
  • measles, mumps, rubella
  • parvo B19
  • treponema (syphilis)
  • CT/LGV pcr, GUD pcr, GC pcr
