Apply online for a felling licence

Use this guide to apply for a licence to fell growing trees using our Felling Licence Online service

How to apply

Use our Felling Licence Online service as a quick way to create and send us your application.

Use the Felling Licence Online - user guide to help you apply online.

To find out more about tree felling regulations, read our guide Tree felling: when you need to apply

Getting started

If you have made a felling licence application since January 2018, please contact us before you apply for a new licence using Felling Licence Online. We may be able to save you time by transferring your land profile (mapping and property profile data) to your user account. Email us at fellinglicenceonline@forestry.gsi.gov.uk so we can arrange this for you.

To apply for a felling licence, you will need to provide the following information:

  • details about you (or the applicant if you are an agent) and the land that you have an interest in felling trees on
  • a completed Agent Authority Form (if you are using an agent or are an agent applying on behalf of your client). This will give the agent permission to submit the felling licence application and agree any restocking conditions (where they apply). This only needs to be done once for each land owner
  • map information that shows the extent of where the proposed felling will take place. You can create a digital map record of the land online, and can reuse if for any future felling licence applications
  • details of the felling work you are applying for, with information about your proposals for restocking where restocking is required

Guidance

Use this guide Felling Licence Online - user guide to help you complete your application using our Felling Licence Online service.

Support

If you experience problems with the system then please let us know at fellinglicenceonline@forestry.gsi.gov.uk.

If you can’t apply online

If you require a paper felling licence application form then please contact us at fellinglicenceonline@forestry.gsi.gov.uk to request one. We will provide this by email unless you give your full postal address, and we will then send one to you by post. Do not apply online if you request an application form.

Return your signed and dated application form to the Administrative Hub that covers your area, along with:

  • 2 signed and dated copies of a map showing the boundary of the tree felling proposals with your application
  • a completed Agent Authority Form (if you are using an agent or are an agent applying on behalf of your client). This will give the agent permission to submit the felling licence application and agree any restocking conditions (where they apply). This only needs to be done once for each land owner

We recommend using our Felling Licence Online service as you will be able to track your application and print off your own licence once approved. You will also be able to create your own land profile, which you can reuse in future applications - this means no more remapping for every application. If you have any questions about using the service, please read our Felling Licence Online - user guide or email us at fellinglicenceonline@forestry.gsi.gov.uk.
