Access your school attendance data

Guidance on how to use the view your education data service to access the monitor your school attendance tool.

Applies to England

Monitor your school attendance

Schools that share daily attendance data with the Department for Education (DfE), can access their attendance data on the view your education data (VYED) service.

You will need to request access from someone at your organisation to log in for the first time. You will receive an email when you have access.

This can take up to 4 weeks from when you first start sharing daily attendance data .

This data will:

  • give schools, local authorities and academy trusts access to more up-to-date pupil-level attendance data
  • allow mainstream schools to compare their attendance with other schools
  • help you meet the new expectations set out in working together to improve school attendance

Schools should use the data to help improve attendance by identifying trends and those pupils who need support, and sharing attendance data with their board, governing body and local authority.

Pupil attendance in schools data from national and local authorities is published on Explore Education Statistics every 2 weeks.

If you are a school

To access the data:

  • log into VYED using your DfE Sign-in credentials
  • select the option ‘school or academy’
  • select ‘monitor your school attendance’

Problems getting access as a school

If you have been contacted about accessing the data but you cannot see ‘monitor your school attendance’ when you log in:

  • log in to DfE Sign-in
  • request access to VYED – school attendance data, from your organisation’s approver

Find out how to request access from your approver. You’ll need your DfE credentials to access the data.

If you are an approver

To access the reports for yourself, log in to DfE Sign-in and add the service ‘view your education data’ and ‘school attendance data’.

To give someone else access, select the approve button in the email request from dfe.signin@education.gov.uk and follow the steps.

If you are from a local authority or trust

To access the data:

  • log into VYED using your identity and access management system (IDAMS) credentials
  • select ‘monitor your school attendance’

Find out how to request access from a super user, or give access to someone else.

Problems getting access as a local authority user

  • log in to IDAMS
  • request access to ‘view your education data – school attendance data’ from a super user at your organisation

You’ll get an email when you have access.
