The Science and Innovation Network promotes and facilitates international collaboration in research and innovation.

The UK Science and Innovation Network in New Zealand helps to build commercially-orientated UK-NZ research and development collaborations. The role is filled by one officer based at the High Commission in Wellington, who is part of a global network of some 90 officers.

We work closely with UKTI and with the economic diplomacy team to deliver maximum benefit for UK researchers and firms engaged in research.

For an introductory brief which covers the local Science and Innovation landscape, UK priorities and successes in New Zealand, read the UK Science and Innovation Network Country Snapshot here.

Responsibilities

The science network contributes to the science and innovation policies of governments, industry and academia for the benefit of the UK. It improves UK policy, based on international experience and emerging opportunities and challenges. It stimulates strategic science collaborations to benefit the UK and deliver wider policy goals. And lastly, it harnesses international technology partnerships and investment to grow UK innovation capacity

Priorities

We match UK opportunities with New Zealand skills to jointly develop innovations which can be exploited commercially or which enhance the effectiveness and delivery of government services. Opportunities arise in particular in the agriculture and biotechnology fields, health technologies, sensors and big data, and instrumentation.

Our services

We arrange visits to New Zealand by groups of UK specialists to meet and discuss collaborations with their NZ counterparts

Events

We host some five or six missions each year to New Zealand, usually at the time of a large national or international conference, so that researchers may meet many New Zealanders in one location over a short period of time.

Business opportunities

The Science Network is available to help if you have a particular opportunity you wish to pursue with New Zealand.
