We engage with the Holy See across the range of foreign policy priorities, including on behalf of other British Government Departments such as the Department for International Development.

The work with the Holy See is unique, because we do not only deal with a sovereign country (Vatican City State) but also with a global faith (the Roman Catholic Church, with 1.3bn adherents including in the UK). Our work includes engagement with other Christian Churches such as the global Anglican Community and the principal world religions.

“Welcome to the website of the British Embassy to the Holy See, Britain’s oldest embassy accredited to the world’s most extensive global network. The last few years have seen the development of a strong global partnership between the United Kingdom and the Holy See, as we co-operate on issues as varied as disarmament, human rights and climate change, across the world from the Middle East and Africa to the Americas. I look forward to deepening our engagement across the many areas on which we work together. You can read about some of our most recent activities on my blog page, or over the Embassy’s Twitter account, and see the images on our Flickr page. We should be delighted to get your feedback and hear your views”. Nigel Baker, Her Majesty’s Ambassador
