Tammy Sandhu MBE

Biography

Tammy Sandhu is Ambassador-designate to the Holy See. She previously served as His Majesty’s Consul General in San Francisco, leading UK–US engagement across California and the Pacific North West.

Her diplomatic postings include Morocco, Brussels and India, with service in Iraq and Kenya. Her experience spans political and economic affairs, trade and investment, government communications, International HR, and crisis response, including high-profile kidnaps of British nationals overseas.

In 2020, she was elected Chair of the FCO’s Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Committee and later co-Chair of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO) Race and Ethnicity Network. She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the late Queen’s Birthday Honours (2021) for services to Diversity and Inclusion.

Tammy joined the FCO in 2005. She holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Warwick and an MSc in International Public Policy from University College London. She speaks Italian, French, Hindi and Punjabi.
