Building on the successful implementation of the feasibility study ‘Supporting Resilient High Quality Growth in Mongolia’ conducted earlier this year, the British Embassy is supporting The Ecological Sequestration Trust (TEST) in its deployment of INUA Radar Screening Methodology in Mongolia which will enhance both the strategic planning capacity and capability of Mongolian leaders to deliver smart sustainable objectives, especially for the city of Ulaanbaatar.

The project, partly funded by the British Embassy, will consist of both individual and collective professionally-led conversations to help identify and bring together the key Mongolian players in the sustainability agenda in order to:

  • define a shared vision for sustainable development practices in Mongolia;
  • encourage greater collaboration across diverse interest groups to decide priority areas for Ulaanbaatar;
  • create a high-level work plan for each priority and;
  • identify sponsors/champions for each of the priority areas

The Radar Screening process will generate wider engagement and will help to deliver more sustainable livelihoods and well-being practices for Mongolia during the next phase of its development. The ongoing work of TEST offers unique opportunities for Mongolia to deliver against the broad ranging challenges of climate change, poverty reduction and sustainable green development and is galvanizing widespread support amongst major stakeholders in country.

TEST’s Radar Screening project coincides with a number of important climate change events this month. The launch of the New Climate Economy study on 16 September will assess the economic benefits of early action on climate change, outlining how the world can achieve economic growth and reduce climate risk together. On 23 September, world leaders will meet in New York for the UN Secretary General’s Climate Leaders Summit.

This Summit is an important opportunity to build political momentum towards a global climate deal at the UN climate negotiations in Paris, December 2015. It is a moment for world leaders to demonstrate the practical action they are taking, to showcase green business, new and innovative technologies and highlight global partnerships. The UK will be supporting a range of initiatives aimed at reducing global carbon emissions and building resilience to the effects of climate change.
