British Ambassador to Romania Paul Brummell

Mr Brummell joined the FCO in 1987. His most recent appointment was High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. His diplomatic career has covered a wide range of roles, many of them in Central Asia.

Mr Brummell said after the ceremony: ‘I am delighted to serve as British Ambassador in Romania, supporting the further development of the strategic partnership between our two countries. It was an honour to be able to meet President Basescu in a week that he will be visiting the United Kingdom for a crucial NATO Summit which will again serve to demonstrate the close alignment of views and strong cooperation between the United Kingdom and Romania across the security agenda.

The two and a half months I spent in the delightful city of Iasi learning the Romanian language ahead of my appointment have introduced me to the beauty and rich culture of this remarkable country, and I look forward to learning much more. From the thousands of Romanian students choosing to pursue their studies at Britain’s great universities to the many wonderful British citizens involved in voluntary work across Romania to all those working tirelessly to build trade and investment links between our growing economies, this really is a partnership between friends.’
