High Commissioner visits the British Army’s Canadian training area

During a visit to the Canadian province of Alberta earlier this week, British High Commissioner Howard Drake visited British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) on Monday, 9 September. The 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Regiment battle group is currently spending 35 days at BATUS to train as the British Army’s lead Armoured Battle Group.
During his visit the High Commissioner witnessed a dismounted infantry attack with Warrior armoured fighting vehicles in support, and an attack at speed by Challenger 2 main battle tanks.
Situated on one of the most sparsely populated areas of the Alberta plain, Suffield hosts four such exercises a year by the British Army. Each exercise involves a different regiment/battalion as the heart of each battle group. The British Army is hosted by Canadian Forces Base Suffield, Alberta, and has trained at BATUS since 1972.
