British High Commission celebrates the British Food Festival
The British High Commissioner hosted a reception to celebrate the British Food Festival on Saturday, held at the Marriott hotels in Islamabad and Karachi.
The British High Commissioner hosted a reception to celebrate the British Food Festival on Saturday, held at the Marriott hotels in Islamabad and Karachi. The week-long festival kicked off on 12 January in Karachi, before moving to Islamabad.
Food lovers from different walks of life including the media, business, arts, culture and the diplomatic corps attended the event to see live demonstrations and taste some delectable British cuisine from British Chef, Christopher Ireland, the Executive Head Chef at the Marriot Leeds, UK.
During the festival, British musicians Simon Thacker and Sarvar Sabri entertained the audience with their Western Classical music. The duo has performed extensively at the UK’s most prestigious venues and festivals, including the Cheltenham Music Festival and Glasgow Jazz Festival.
Speaking at the festival, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Philip Barton CMG OBE said:
Britain and Pakistan have many things in common: one of these is love of food. Just like Pakistan, the UK has an impressive diversity in food and drink. Each region has its own specialities based on local traditions, often stretching back centuries. The UK has also embraced different cultures, absorbing culinary, music and other traditions from around the world, including South Asia.
It is a pleasure to host today’s reception and to bring together good food and fine music. The diners’ appreciation of classic British cooking demonstrates our shared passion for good food. I am sure there will be an ongoing culinary friendship between our two countries.
I would like to thank the Marriott Hotel, the chef and the musicians, who have teamed up to bring us this very exciting festival, showcasing the very best food from across the UK.
