In May-June 2014 the British Embassy held a competition for a work of art that best represents UK-Uzbekistan bilateral relations. Today Her Majesty’s Ambassador George Edgar announced the winners and presented gifts and certificates to the authors of the most creative art works.

The competition was launched in May, and our Facebook followers were invited to participate in the event to help us decorate the Embassy. The art work might be a painting, a photo, a collage, or a drawing that in would represent UK-Uzbekistan bilateral relations. The winning art works will be displayed in the reception of the Embassy and the office of the Ambassador.

The two winning works, by Mr Alexandr Barkovskiy (winner) and Ms Zarina Khaldarova (runner-up) were selected by Ambassador Edgar out of many entries submitted. Their winning photo and collage were printed in large format and displayed to Embassy staff at an award ceremony attended by the winners.

Welcoming the winners, Ambassador Edgar said:

Thank you to the winning entrants for their excellent works of art, which each in its own way convey something important about the relationship between our two countries. Having them on display here will encourage and inspire us and visitors to the Embassy as we work to improve the bilateral relationship still further. I’m also grateful to all the participants in the competition who produced work of such high quality.
