Workplace pension participation and savings trends statistics: Background information and methodology

This is the latest release of statistics on Workplace Pension Participation and Savings Trends. 

This release is the thirteenth edition in the series, extends the data series to 2025 and provides new additions to the statistical series. 

The latest release offers greater information on the workplace pension participation of all employees, not just those eligible for Automatic Enrolment (AE), as well as more detailed information including on age, gender, earnings, geography, industry and contribution rates. 

After years of growth in participation during the roll-out of automatic enrolment, participation rates have stabilised in recent years. Trends in stopping saving levels and contributions have also remained relatively stable. While trends in stopping saving levels and contribution opt-outs have both risen in the latest year they remain low as a proportion of the AE-eligible population.
