Details

Statistics on motor vehicles that were registered for the first time during 2016.

The statistics are derived from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which administers vehicle registration and licensing records in the United Kingdom (Great Britain prior to July 2014).

In 2016, there were:

  • 3.3 million vehicles registered for the first time in Great Britain, the highest annual figure ever recorded
  • 42,000 new ultra-low emission vehicles registered for the first time in the UK
  • 37.3 million vehicles registered for use on the road in Great Britain
