Details

Since 2009, there has been a period of decline in UK shipping interest. Despite the decline in recent years, the UK registered fleet is still 4 times the size it was in the late 1990s, having increased from 2.7 million deadweight tonnage to 12.6 million deadweight tonnage.

At the end of 2014 there were:

  • 453 UK registered trading vessels (9% less than in 2013) and totalling 12.3 million gross tons and 12.6 deadweight million tonnes respectively
  • 606 UK direct owned trading vessels, totalling 16.3 million gross tons and 16.5 million deadweight tons
  • 798 UK parent owned trading vessels, totalling 22.7 million gross tons and 30.1 million deadweight
  • 1,060 UK managed trading ships, totalling 42.9 million gross tons or 53.9 million deadweight tons
