Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) statistics 2024: final report data tables RF_01 (RTFO tables)

Details

Table RF_0103 revision note:

The ‘still in existence’ values for 2023 and 2024 were not accounting for the use of certificates carried over from the previous obligation year.

The incorrect calculation was:

  • certificates still in existence = issued - revoked - redeemed

This has been corrected to:

  • certificates still in existence = issued + carried over from previous year - revoked - redeemed

Also, the 2022 ‘still in existence’ value was corrected as those certificates have since been used. This results in the ‘redeemed’ values for 2022 also being adjusted to the correct value.

These values have been corrected in the following statistical tables:

All values relating to the 2020 and 2021 obligation years in RF_0103 of the 2023 final report statistical tables and the 2021 obligation year values of the 2024 final report statistical tables were copied incorrectly into the tables but have now been updated to reflect the correct values.

The ‘still in existence’ value for the 2025 obligation year in the 2025 second provisional release has been corrected due to a small filtering error in the original production.

Revision

This statistical release has been revised to correct an error in the volume of renewable fuel supplied under the RTFO in the original HTML report. In 2024, renewable fuels accounted for 8% (3,809 million litres equivalent) of all road and non-road mobile machinery fuel supplied to the UK. This was previously reported at 3,808 million litres. The related data tables which were published with the report were not impacted by this error.

Statistics on the supply of renewable road transport and non-road mobile machinery fuels, reported under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) for 2024, based on data available as of 26 September 2025.

This is the final report for 2024 and contains a complete dataset for the year.

The report and accompanying tables include information on the:

  • amount of UK road transport fuel from renewable and fossil fuel
  • number of Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates (RTFCs) which have been issued to fuel meeting the sustainability requirements
  • balance of RTFCs by obligation period
  • trades of RTFCs between suppliers and traders
  • carbon and sustainability characteristics of the renewable fuel to which RTFCs have been issued
  • voluntary scheme data of renewable transport fuel
