Updated to second edition and data tables F2 and F8 have been updated following a revision from Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to the data as at 31 March 2025 on functions of police staff (including s.38 designated officers). This revision affects numbers in the ‘Front desk’, ‘Incident (Response) Management’ and ‘National Policing’ subfunction categories only. There has been no change in overall police staff (including s.38 designated officer) numbers for the MPS. In addition, following the identification of a historic anomaly in the estimates of the functions data as at 31 March 2015 for police officers in Warwickshire, the number and proportion of police officers in frontline policing roles in tables F5 and F6 have been updated. The notes for the accompanying data tables on absences have also been updated to clarify which forces were unable to provide specific data on suspensions for as at 31 March 2024 and 2025. This is for clarity only, and there has been no change to the reported number of full-time equivalents on long term absence. Figures on joiner rate (excluding transfers) (column K) in Table JL1 have been amended. Previously the joiner rate was calculated using the total number of officers in post as at 31 March 2024. This has been updated to use the total number of officers in post as at 31 March 2025.
