Pre release access

The phrase ‘Pre-release access’ refers to the practice whereby official statistics in their final form, and any accompanying written commentary, are made available to an eligible person in advance of their publication. The rules and principles which govern pre-release access are featured within the Pre-release Access to Official Statistics Order 2008.

1. Pathways between probation and addiction treatment in England: a follow-up study


Ministry of Justice – Pre‑release access (up to 5 days)

Besides production staff, the following Ministry of Justice persons are given pre-release access up to 5 days prior to release:

  • Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice
  • Minister of State for Prisons, Probation and Reducing Reoffending
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State
  • Special Advisers x 3
  • Permanent Secretary
  • Better Outcome Through Linked Data (BOLD) Programme Director

Department of Health and Social Care – Pre‑release Access (up to 24 hours)

The following Department of Health and Social Care persons are given pre-release access up to 24 hours prior to release:

  • Secretary of State for Health and Social Care
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health and Prevention
  • Special Advisers x 3
  • Director General for Global, Public Health and Emergencies
  • Department of Health and Social Care Press Officers x 2
