Update of indicators in the liver disease profile, including hospital admissions for liver disease (persons, males and females), hospital admissions for alcoholic liver disease (persons, males and females), and hospital admissions for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in persons (3-year and 1-year).
Correction (1 March 2022): Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (RAJ) notified NHS Digital of a data quality issue with submitted diagnosis data for the financial year ending 2021. As a result the annual Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) extract was corrected and reissued. Using the reissued data the 3 HES indicators in the liver profile, on Fingertips, and the statistical commentary have now been corrected. The impact was most noticeable for the counties and unitary authorities in the East of England and London. This correction is then reflected in the higher geographies and deprivation deciles.
Liver disease is one of the main causes of premature mortality nationally. The profiles are designed to support local authorities by providing data in a user-friendly format to allow them to assess the effect of liver disease in their areas and take action to prevent it.
Data are presented by counties and unitary authorities (upper tier local authority), former Government Office Region and England. Districts and unitary authority (lower tier local authority) level data are also presented, where available.
