This is a summary of the latest Accredited Official Statistics on the outcomes of completed Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) Work Capability Assessments (WCAs). The publication covers information on both initial and repeat ESA assessments in Great Britain.

outcomes of completed Incapacity Benefit (IB) reassessments up to June 2025

completed initial WCA appeal outcomes for ESA claims with a start date to September 2025

end to end initial ESA claim clearance times to end of June 2025

Universal Credit (UC) was rolled out to every jobcentre across Great Britain by December 2018 and has now replaced income-related ESA for most new claimants. This has greatly changed the volume and composition of new claims to ESA.
