Energy Performance of Buildings Certificates: technical notes

Details

Statistics based on Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) issued for domestic buildings only. The certificates are lodged on the Energy Performance of Buildings Register (EPB) for England and Wales.

Revision

Due to a processing error in the allocation of local authorities EPC statistics published on 23 April 2026 has been revised. An error was identified in a lookup table that allocated local authorities to a postcode. As a result the number of unknown local authorities increased, which led to errors in the allocation of countries due to postcodes on the borders of Scotland, Wales and England. Therefore, some certificates were allocated to local authorities in Wales, which when revised were then allocated to England. Overall the scale of the revision was small, given the number of records overall is over 2 million. See the statistical release or live tables for more information on the impact of this revision.
