Grant schemes for electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics: 1 July 2026

About this release

This release presents statistics on the number of installations funded and grant value awarded from grants provided by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the United Kingdom.

The data presented in this release is correct as of 1 July 2026.

Headline figures

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom:

• home charging grant schemes have funded 412,682 installations since 2013, of which there were 10,833 in the last 12 months^{[footnote 1]}

• workplace charging grant schemes have funded 85,547 installations since 2016, of which there were 12,489 in the last 12 months^{[footnote 2]}

• provisional estimates indicate that public charging grant schemes have funded 24,945 EV charger installations since 2017 ^{[footnote 3]}

Home charging grant schemes

Electric vehicle chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners

The electric vehicle chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners provides electric vehicle (EV) drivers who are renters or own a flat with support towards the costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points.  As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the electric vehicle chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners scheme has funded:

• the installation of 26,504 sockets of which there were 9,301 in the last 12 months

• a total of £9.2 million for socket installations

Electric vehicle chargepoint grant for residential landlords

The electric vehicle chargepoint grant for residential landlords provides landlords with support towards the cost of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle chargepoints at residential properties. As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the electric vehicle chargepoint grant for residential landlords scheme has funded:

• 1,912 socket installations of which there were 410 in the last 12 months

• a total of £673,983 for socket installations

Electric vehicle chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking

The electric vehicle chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking provides electric vehicle (EV) drivers with support towards the costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints at residential properties when also installing a cross-pavement charging solution. As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the electric vehicle chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking has funded:

• 59 socket installations of which there were 31 in the last 12 months

• a total of £20,681 for socket installations

Workplace charging grant schemes

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The Workplace Charging Scheme provides support towards the costs of the purchase, installation and infrastructure of electric vehicle chargepoints at eligible places of work. Further information can be found on the Workplace Charging Scheme page

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, WCS has funded:

• a total of 72,388 socket installations since the scheme began in late 2016 of which there were 8,047 in the last 12 months

• £26.9 million for socket installations and supporting infrastructure

Chart 1 is a horizontal bar chart showing the total number of charging socket installations funded through the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) per 100,000 of the resident population, by country and region. As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom:

• the East Midlands has the highest number of WCS-funded charging socket installations per 100,000 population, at 135.8

• London has the lowest number of WCS-funded charging socket installations per 100,000 people, at 49.9

Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions

The Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions is a separate grant of the Workplace Charging Scheme.

It helps state-funded schools and education institutions with the cost of buying and installing electric vehicle sockets. Further information can be found on Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions page

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions has funded:

• 6,219 socket installations in education institutions since the grant started in 2024 of which there were 3,175 in the last 12 months

• a total of £14.5 million for socket installations.

NHS Chargepoint Accelerator Scheme (NCAS)

The NHS Chargepoint Accelerator Scheme is a government initiative to install onsite electric vehicle charging infrastructure across NHS Trusts, supporting the transition of NHS fleets to electric vehicles. Chart 2: Cumulative NCAS-reported charging socket installations by month: England as of 1 July 2026 (EVCI5301)

Chart 2 is a line chart which shows the cumulative number of charging sockets installations reported through the NHS Chargepoint Accelerator Scheme (NCAS) since the scheme went live in July 2025. As of 1 July 2026, in England, the NCAS has reported:

• the installation of 912 sockets since the scheme started in July 2025.

• £7.1 million total spend to date for charging infrastructure projects at NHS sites.

Public charging grant schemes

Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund

The Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund supports local authorities in England to plan and deliver charging infrastructure for residents without off-street parking.

The fund comprises:

• capital funding to support chargepoint delivery

• capability funding to ensure that local authorities have the staff and capability to plan and deliver charging infrastructure

The LEVI pilot scheme launched in summer 2022, with the full scheme launched in March 2023.

The period of coverage of LEVI statistics is currently 3 months behind other published electric vehicle charging infrastructure statistics due to the timeliness of the source data. Provisional estimates for the latest period are also provided for consistency of coverage but are subject to revision in future statistical releases.

As of 1 April 2026, in England:

• 643 EV charger installations have been funded by the LEVI Fund

Provisional estimates indicate that as of 1 July 2026, there have been 1,268 EV charger installations funded by the LEVI Fund in England.

Grant schemes closed to new applications

On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS)

The On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme closed to new applications in March 2024. Local authorities continue to provide data to OZEV for ongoing projects. Summary statistics for completed and ongoing projects are available in the EVCI data tables and continue to be updated quarterly.

ORCS projects are only counted as completed when all devices have been installed and final funding payments have been claimed by the local authority. As such, the total number of devices installed using ORCS funding could be larger than reported in completed projects, as those in partially completed projects are not included.

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, completed ORCS projects: 

• have installed 19,001 public charging devices across local authorities, comprising a total of 23,677 charging sockets 

• have installed 5,676 public charging devices across local authorities in the last 12 months, comprising a total of 6,567 charging sockets 

• have received a grant value of £64.9 million since the scheme’s launch in 2017

The following grants closed to customer applications on 31 March 2026, the electric vehicle:

• infrastructure grant for staff and fleets

• infrastructure grant for residential landlords

• chargepoint grant for commercial landlords

Electric vehicle infrastructure grant for staff and fleets

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the electric vehicle chargepoint grant for staff and fleets has funded:

• 6,473 socket installations of which there were 1,178 in the last 12 months

• 12,777 parking spaces enabled with supporting infrastructure, of which there were 1,850 in the last 12 months

• £8.6 million for socket installations and supporting infrastructure

Electric vehicle infrastructure grant for residential landlords

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the electric vehicle infrastructure grant for residential landlords has funded:

• the installation of 3,652 sockets of which, there were 1,091 in the last 12 months

• 10,947 parking spaces enabled with supporting infrastructure of which, there were 3,542 in the last 12 months

• a total of £6.5 million for socket installations and supporting infrastructure

Electric vehicle chargepoint grant for commercial landlords

As of 1 July 2026, in the United Kingdom, the electric vehicle chargepoint grant for commercial landlords has funded:

• the installation of 467 sockets of which, there were 89 in the last 12 months

• a total of £170,200 for socket installations and supporting infrastructure

Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS)

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme provided grant funding towards the cost of installing electric vehicle charging devices at domestic properties across the UK from 2014 to 2022 and was replaced by the EVCG. Summary statistics for installed devices and associated grant funding are available in the historic tables section of the EVCI data tables page. The scheme is closed to new applications and these are the final statistics.

A total of 340,222 domestic charging device installations received funding in the United Kingdom under the EVHS, with a total grant value of £140.8 million.

Domestic Recharge Scheme (DRS)

The Domestic Recharge Scheme provided grant funding for private plug-in vehicle owners to offset the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of a dedicated recharging unit from 2013 to 2014 and was replaced by the EVHS. The scheme is closed to new applications and these are the final statistics.

The DRS funded 40,333 domestic charging device installations between 2013 and 2014, in the United Kingdom.

These statistics are released under the official statistics in development label. Official statistics in development are official statistics that are undergoing a development and are being tested with users, in line with the standards of trustworthiness, quality, and value in the Code of Practice for Statistics.

Limitations

Quality

All summary statistics in this publication are derived from administrative databases. Grants can take several months to process and the most recent months are likely to be undercounted. Statistics for the latest months should therefore be treated as provisional.

Coverage

This publication series does not represent a complete summary of all grant schemes for electric vehicle charging infrastructure funded by OZEV. Grants are added to this series once the quality of sourced data has been assured and meets the standards of official statistics in development.

The total number of domestic and workplace charging devices installed in the UK is likely to be different to the figures provided in this report as:

• there is no requirement to register a privately funded charging device with the Government

• only approved models for EVCG and approved models for WCS are eligible for respective grant funding

• there are no means to determine if infrastructure installed under the schemes are still operational

 Statistics for the Depot Charging Grant are not currently published but are in development and expected to be included in a future release.
