About this release
This release presents official statistics in development on the number of grants awarded for the installation of electric vehicle charging devices in the United Kingdom as of 1 October 2025.
These statistics are released under the ‘official statistics in development’ label. For more information, see the About these statistics section.
The next quarterly report is scheduled for release in February 2025.
This quarterly report is currently undergoing a user relevance review. This includes a simplification of language and presentation, and a focus on grant schemes which are currently open to applications. These improvements are ongoing and feedback is welcomed.

All summary statistics in this publication are derived from administrative databases. Grants can take several months to process and the most recent months are likely to be undercounted. Statistics for the latest months should therefore be treated as provisional.
Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (EVCG)
The EVCG replaced the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) on 1 April 2022 and provides funding towards the cost of installing chargepoints and supporting infrastructure for:
-
renters and flat owners
-
residential or staff and fleet car parks
-
landlords of residential and commercial properties
A separate component of the EVCG for households with on-street parking opened in 2024, which includes funding towards the cost of installing a chargepoint for households installing a cross-pavement charging solution.
Further information can be found on the electric vehicle chargepoint grants guidance page.
Chart 1: Cumulative EVCG funded charging sockets, UK (Table 1)
Chart 1 is a bar chart showing the number of socket installations receiving funding from the EVCG scheme. As of 1 October 2025:
-
28,383 total socket installations have been supported by this scheme with a corresponding grant value of £19.2 million
-
renters and flat owners account for 18,222 sockets, 64% of installations
-
car parks account for 8,232 sockets, 29% of installations
-
landlords account for 1,929 sockets, 7% of installations
The EVCG scheme also funds the installation of chargepoints at residential properties with on-street parking if they are also installing a cross-pavement solution. As of 1 October 2025, this grant has funded 34 sockets with a grant value of £11,781.
Further summary statistics for installations and corresponding grant value for the EVCG scheme are available in the supporting statistical tables.
Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)
The WCS provides funding towards the cost of installing chargepoints at workplaces. Further information can be found on the electric vehicle chargepoint grants guidance page.
Chart 2: Cumulative WCS funded charging sockets (excluding education institutions), UK (Table 5)
Chart 2 is a bar chart showing the number of socket installations receiving funding from the WCS (excluding education institutions). As of 1 October 2025, the scheme has funded:
-
a total of 65,318 socket installations since the scheme began in late 2016
-
7,568 socket installations in the last 12 months
The following table provides the total number of socket installations by region, which have received funding from the WCS (excluding education institutions). It also provides the number of sockets per 100,000 population in each region.
Table 1: Cumulative WCS funded charging sockets (excluding education institutions), by population and by region
| Region | WCS sockets | WCS sockets per 100,000 population | |

Further summary statistics for installations and corresponding grant value for the WCS scheme are available in the supporting statistical tables.
Grant schemes closed to new applications
On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS)
Information about ORCS can be found on the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme guidance for local authorities page.
The scheme is closed to new applications. Local authorities continue to provide data to OZEV for ongoing projects. Summary statistics for completed and ongoing projects are available in the supporting statistical tables and continue to be updated quarterly.
ORCS projects are only counted as completed when all devices have been installed and final funding payments have been claimed by the local authority. As such, the total number of devices installed using ORCS funding will be higher than reported in completed projects, as those in partially completed projects are not included.
As of 1 October 2025, the ORCS has funded 13,959 public charging devices in completed projects since the scheme was established in 2017. Completed projects have received £49.0 million of grant funding.
Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS)
The EVHS provided grant funding towards the cost of installing electric vehicle charging devices at domestic properties across the UK from 2014 to 2022 and was replaced by the EVCG. Summary statistics for installed devices and associated grant funding are available in the supporting statistical tables. The scheme is closed to new applications and these are the final statistics.
A total of 340,222 domestic charging device installations received funding under the EVHS, with a total grant value of £140.8 million.
Domestic Recharge Scheme (DRS)
The DRS provided grant funding for private plug-in vehicle owners to offset the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of a dedicated recharging unit from 2013 to 2014 and was replaced by the EVHS. Summary statistics for installed devices are available in the supporting statistical tables. The scheme is closed to new applications and these are the final statistics.
The DRS funded 40,333 domestic charging device installations between 2013 and 2014.
About these statistics
These statistics are released under the official statistics in development label. Official statistics in development are official statistics that are undergoing a development and are being tested with users, in line with the standards of trustworthiness, quality, and value in the Code of Practice for Statistics.
Limitations
Quality
The data are sourced from administrative databases used for operational purposes, which were not designed for the purpose of publishing official statistics. Grants can take several months to process, so statistics for the most recent months are likely to contain undercounting for schemes open to applicants.
Coverage
This publication series does not represent a complete summary of all grant schemes for electric vehicle charging infrastructure funded by OZEV. Grants are added to this series once the quality of sourced data has been assured and meets the standards of official statistics in development.
The total number of domestic and workplace charging devices installed in the UK is likely to be different to the figures provided in this report as:
-
there is no requirement to register a privately funded charging device with the Government
-
only approved models for EVCG and approved models for WCS are eligible for respective grant funding
-
there are no means to determine if infrastructure installed under the schemes are still operational
Additional sources
Population figures by local authority are sourced from the Office for National Statistics Population Mid-Year Estimates for 2024. The local authority administrative geographies are sourced from the ONS Geography Portal.
