  • landlords of residential and commercial properties

A separate component of the EVCG for households with on-street parking opened in 2024, which includes funding towards the cost of installing a chargepoint for households installing a cross-pavement charging solution.

Further information can be found on the electric vehicle chargepoint grants guidance page.

Chart 1: Cumulative EVCG-funded charging sockets: United Kingdom, 1 January 2026 (EVCI5101)

Chart 1 is a stacked bar chart showing the number of socket installations receiving funding from the EVCG scheme. As of 1 January 2026 in the United Kingdom:

  • 32,451 total socket installations have been supported by this scheme with a corresponding grant value of £20.9 million, since the scheme began in 2022

  • renters and flat owners account for 21,754 sockets, 67% of installations

  • car parks account for 8,658 sockets, 27% of installations

  • landlords account for 2,039 sockets, 6% of installations

The EVCG scheme also funds the installation of chargepoints at residential properties with on-street parking if they are also installing a cross-pavement solution. As of 1 January 2026, this grant has funded 39 sockets with a grant value of £13,531.

Further summary statistics for installations and corresponding grant value for the EVCG scheme are available in the EVCI data tables.

Future editions of this statistical release will separate the EVCG grant scheme into its individual grants to better reflect changes to OZEV’s home and workplace grants portfolio.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The WCS provides funding towards the cost of installing chargepoints at workplaces. Further information can be found on the electric vehicle chargepoint grants guidance page.

Chart 2: Cumulative WCS-funded charging sockets by country and region: United Kingdom, 1 January 2026 (EVCI5201)

  • a total of 67,290 socket installations have been funded since the scheme began in late 2016

  • the South East has the highest number of sockets installed, followed by the North West and the East of England

  • Northern Ireland has the lowest number of sockets installed

The WCS for state-funded education institutions is a separate grant of the WCS. As of 1 January 2026 in the United Kingdom:

  • the WCS has funded 4,866 socket installations in state-funded education institutions since the grant started in 2024

Grant schemes closed to new applications

On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS)

The scheme is closed to new applications. Local authorities continue to provide data to OZEV for ongoing projects. Summary statistics for completed and ongoing projects are available in the EVCI data tables and continue to be updated quarterly.

ORCS projects are only counted as completed when all devices have been installed and final funding payments have been claimed by the local authority. As such, the total number of devices installed using ORCS funding could be larger than reported in completed projects, as those in partially completed projects are not included.

Further information about ORCS can be found on the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme guidance for local authorities page.

As of 1 January 2026, in the United Kingdom the ORCS has funded 14,989 public charging devices in completed projects since the scheme was established in 2017. Completed projects have received £51.7 million of grant funding.

Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS)

The EVHS provided grant funding towards the cost of installing electric vehicle charging devices at domestic properties across the UK from 2014 to 2022 and was replaced by the EVCG. Summary statistics for installed devices and associated grant funding are available in the historic tables section of the EVCI data tables page. The scheme is closed to new applications and these are the final statistics.

A total of 340,222 domestic charging device installations received funding in the United Kingdom under the EVHS, with a total grant value of £140.8 million.

Domestic Recharge Scheme (DRS)

The DRS provided grant funding for private plug-in vehicle owners to offset the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of a dedicated recharging unit from 2013 to 2014 and was replaced by the EVHS. Summary statistics for installed devices and associated grant funding are available in the historic tables section of the EVCI data tables page. The scheme is closed to new applications and these are the final statistics.

The DRS funded 40,333 domestic charging device installations between 2013 and 2014 in the United Kingdom.

Limitations

Quality

All summary statistics in this publication are derived from administrative databases. Grants can take several months to process and the most recent months are likely to be undercounted. Statistics for the latest months should therefore be treated as provisional.

Coverage

This publication series does not represent a complete summary of all grant schemes for electric vehicle charging infrastructure funded by OZEV. Grants are added to this series once the quality of sourced data has been assured and meets the standards of official statistics in development.

The total number of domestic and workplace charging devices installed in the UK is likely to be different to the figures provided in this report as:

  • there is no requirement to register a privately funded charging device with the Government

  • only approved models for EVCG and approved models for WCS are eligible for respective grant funding

  • there are no means to determine if infrastructure installed under the schemes are still operational

Statistics for the following grant schemes are not currently published but are in development with publication expected in 2026:

  • Depot Charging Grant

  • Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund
