Intention to correct the workforce and activity data 2025
Since publication in September 2026, an error has been identified in describing the figures relating to size of the health visiting and school nursing workforces.
This publication describes the number of established roles rather than the actual number of roles filled for:
- health visitors
- school nurses
- other roles listed in the health visiting and school nursing workforces
This error affects:
- ‘Health visiting workforce’ section of the workforce and activity report - all data except vacancy rates
- ‘School nursing workforce’ section of the workforce and activity report - all data except vacancy rates
- figures 1 to 4 of the workforce and activity report
- tables 1 and 2 of the workforce and activity report
- data tables 1 and 2
Reading Borough Council have also identified an error in their figure for the number of school nurses. This affects the Reading school nursing figures in data table 2.
We will correct and update the data as soon as reasonable, in line with DHSC revisions policy. We will keep users informed of our progress.
These statistics cover:
- the number of people working in health visiting and school nursing teams
- activity carried out under the healthy child programme, including:
- statutory health and development reviews for children aged 0 to 5 years
- non-statutory targeted reviews
- school nursing activity
The data is based on returns from 145 local councils in England.
