Details

This release was revised on 05 February 2026 at 16.21pm. This revision was made to fix an error in the Key findings section for the average weight of Blue Fin Tuna caught in 2025 season and the comparison to 2024 season. This now aligns with the figures quoted in section 4.2

This is an official statistics release.

Starting in 2024, an English Catch and Release Recreational Fishery (CRRF) for Bluefin Tuna (BFT) has been opened. The MMO collects data from this fishery for operational purposes, including monitoring and managing the fishery throughout the season. The MMO is also required to submit data to the International Council for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) to fulfil the UK’s reporting obligations as a contracting party.

These official statistics contain details about fishing activity from the Bluefin Tuna CRRF in the 2025 season.
