The adult mental health and wellbeing profile:
- supports understanding of adult mental health and wellbeing at a local level
- supports an intelligence-based approach to service planning, commissioning and delivery
- provides a set of indicators that allow planners, providers and stakeholders to profile their area and benchmark against similar populations
The September 2026 release includes an update on mortality and excess mortality in people (aged 18 to 74) referred to secondary mental health services. Data is available for the period 2022 to 2024 for:
- all and condition-specific causes
- England, regions (NHS and statistical), integrated care boards and upper tier local authorities
Number of deaths for the period prior to 2022 to 2024 has been updated. This aligns with NHS England’s publication on excess mortality for people referred to secondary mental health services (aged 18 to 74). Statistics for 2020 to 2022 and 2021 to 2023 have been updated due to population revisions.
The adult mental health and wellbeing profile is classified as official statistics in development.
