The adult mental health and wellbeing profile:
- supports understanding of adult mental health and wellbeing at a local level
- supports an intelligence-based approach to service planning, commissioning and delivery
- provides a set of indicators that allow planners, providers and stakeholders to profile their area and benchmark against similar populations
The April 2026 update includes a new indicator on model-based estimated prevalence of severe mental illness (SMI) and condition groups (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other psychosis) for England and local areas. This new indicator is accompanied by a report, including details on:
- main findings and interpretations of the estimates
- how the modelled estimates were derived
- comparison of the estimates with other data on SMI
- guidance on how to use the estimates
The profile also includes:
- 4 updated indicators on mental health and one on smoking cessation from the Quality and Outcomes Framework (counties and unitary authorities, and statistical regions only)
- 3 updated indicators on substance misuse treatment (England and local areas)
