Details

This publication provides data on the NHS abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening programme.

Main findings

The report shows that from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021:

  • approximately 210,800 men were offered screening with 77.8% receiving a conclusive screen
  • 1,542 aneurysms (aorta measuring ≥3.0cm) were found
  • there were approximately 14,600 men on surveillance during the year and just over 20,000 surveillance scans were undertaken
  • 848 men with large aneurysms (≥5.5cm) were referred for surgery; 88.8% of men appropriately referred, not declining and suitable for surgery underwent elective repair
