Highways England is able to require that property be sold to us so that we can carry out road infrastructure developments that are in the public interest. This is known as compulsory purchase. We are given this power by parliament.

This booklet:

  • outlines how our compulsory purchase procedures would affect your property (land)
  • provides you with information about the compensation you can claim
  • explains how we will handle your claim
  • advises how to request an advance payment of your compensation
