The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from British Sugar Plc.

Industrial Waste Landfill: This substantial variation is to for the addition off a proposed Deposit for recovery activity to the closed landfill permit currently on site to allow for the creation of a platform for future residential development on the site. In addition this variation also includes the expansion of the existing Environmental Permit landfill site boundary to encompass a larger proportion of the overall site owned by British Sugar including the area which was formerly used for beet sugar processing, and to allow the use of waste from within the existing permit boundary within the new expanded site boundary. This proposed increase in permit area is to enable the waste within the current permit boundary to be re-used on site and for the new landform to be built in accordance with the required site levels as defined in the associated development planning permission.
