Details

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Sellafield Limited.

The application contains a description of the proposed changes to:

  • Removal of permit condition 4.3.9 and related definitions that refer to Magnox reprocessing, as this activity ended in July 2022.

  • An update to permit condition 1.1.4 to remove a reference to an earlier requirement that has already been completed and is no longer relevant. The condition relates to Sellafield’s Waste Management Plan (WMP) and Site Wide Environmental Safety Case (SWESC), which set out how waste is managed and how environmental safety is maintained across the site.

  • An update to condition 4.3.8 regarding the Plant Notification Level (PNL) exceedance notification process and timescales following the completion of the PNL process post job review (PJR).
