Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Gings Ltd.

Substantial Variation to permitted site at No2 Old Swan Road, Newton-le-Willows, St. Helens, Merseyside, WA12 9EZ.  Current Household Commercial and Industrial Waste Transfer Station allows 5k tonnes per annum storage and treatment of C&D wastes and metals.   The variation applied for proposes to:

  • Consolidate permit to a modern style permit

  • Increase throughput from 5,000 to <75,000 tonnes per annum

  • Allow wastes to be stored and treated outside the buildings

  • Addition of treatment activities including shredding, screening, trommelling and crushing and baling

  • Addition of several waste types (including mixed municipal wastes, bulky wastes, wood and mechanically treated wastes and RDF
