There are 162,000 registered charities in England and Wales with a combined income of £57 billion.

The shape of the charitable sector indicates those charities with an annual income less than £10,000 receive less than 5% of the income recorded.

However, the over other end of the spectrum shows the majority of charitable income is shared by only a few charities. The largest 500 charities attract 50% of the income.
