Our reply

Please see attached the Inspection reports for C J Hall Veterinary Surgeons, which was inspected on 05/12/2017 and Ham Veterinary Surgery which was inspected on 23/04/2018. The contents of these reports contain the details of any deficiencies, compliance concerns or enforcement actions recorded by the VMD in relation to these premises during the specified period.

Personal and confidential information about staff and internal processing have been redacted.

The VMD does not regulate, authorise or license veterinary premises for the keeping or hospitalisation of animals, including birds. These matters do not fall within the remit of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations and therefore are not assessed, recorded or regulated as part of VMD inspections.

Accordingly, the VMD holds no information in relation to:

  • authorisations or licences permitting the hospitalisation or in‑patient care of birds (Q2);
  • suitability of a premises to keep birds overnight or for extended periods (Q3);
  • regulatory basis for veterinary premises holding birds as in‑patients (Q5).

These aspects are typically matters for professional veterinary standards regulated by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

Although the VMD does not regulate permissions relating to animal accommodation, the following resources may assist in understanding what the VMD does inspect under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations:

Attachment 2 (CJ Hall report)
