Our reply

1. Can you tell me how many doses of BARBERVAX were sold through vets since it’s introduction in this country?

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate does not hold the information you have requested. We do not collect or maintain data on the number of doses of veterinary medicines sold through veterinary practices, including products supplied for use under the Cascade.

2.   Can you confirm if the vaccination process must be carried out by a vet?

The product literature supplied for Barbervax does not specify. Accordingly, where a product is prescribed under the Cascade, it may be administered by the prescribing veterinary surgeon or by an individual acting under the veterinary surgeon’s direct supervision. However, responsibility for both the prescription and its use remains with the vet. Therefore, if the vet chooses to delegate the administration of the product, they must be satisfied that the individual is competent to do so.

3.   Do you have any details regarding a vaccination programme?

As this product does not hold a Marketing Authorisation in the UK, there is no national vaccination programme in place. Further product information is available on the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) website at: 90013ELBL.pdf

4.   Do you have any data regarding the efficacy of BARBERVAX.

The VMD’s benefit:risk assessment focuses on identifying any risks associated with the quality and safety of the proposed import product. It does not address the efficacy of the medicine, as decisions regarding treatment under the cascade lie with the prescribing vet.

Can you send me a FAMACHA chart?

We do not hold the information you have requests. We do not produce, own or maintain FAMACHA charts as part of our regulatory functions, and we do not hold copies of third‑party guidance or tools used by veterinary professionals or livestock keepers.
