This publication relates to the annual period October 2023 to October 2024 and is an update on our previous publication of children with a parent in prison for the annual period October 2021 to October 2022 for England and Wales Estimates of children with a parent in prison - GOV.UK.  

Based on learnings from our previous publication, methodology has been improved to provide a robust and high coverage count of children. The count is based on a linked data share of HMPPS prisoner data and HMRC Child Benefit data. It uses innovative AI techniques to extract information from unstructured data in HMPPS prison and probation data sources.
