Paper by the University of Exeter on the estimated mortality hazard ratio for the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7). This paper was available for participants to read at SAGE 77 on 21 January 2021, but not considered or discussed in the meeting.

The paper is the assessment of the evidence at the time of writing. As new evidence or data emerges, SAGE updates its advice accordingly.

This paper should be read in the context of the NERVTAG paper on COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 from SAGE 77.
