Details of the applications

United Utilities Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of the applications, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

Application number NPS/WR/029653 is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of surface water at National Grid Reference (NGR) SD 55 57 at Tarnbrook, Lancaster.

Application number NPS/WR/029650 is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of surface water at NGR SD 55 56 at Tarnbrook, Lancaster.

Both applications are to modify existing weir structures within the watercourses which will allow additional water to pass downstream via a channel cut into each weir. The weirs will hold back less water as a result of the changes. The works are for environmental benefit.
