FAQs

Published 23 May 2023

1. Can I claim VAT on top of costs?

No, Grant funding is outside the scope of VAT so you cannot charge output VAT on top of your submitted costs. If you incur non-recoverable input VAT costs, you cannot pass this on to UK Space Agency.

2. What will the reviewers be looking for?

The UK Space Agency will base scoring on the 10 questions asked in the application form and the evaluation criteria set out in the call guidance on the website.

3. Will there be any follow up funding to expand on the idea?

Not automatically. It is our intention to launch future related call opportunities in FY24-25 which could expand on this call but that call will also be subject to fair and open competition terms. There may be other more appropriate support from other sources.

4. When will I know the outcome of the bid?

By the end of July 2023. We will ask in your application form to confirm that you will be able to start the work on or before 1st September 2023.

5. Can I submit more than one proposal?

You can submit more than one proposal but it must be clear how the proposals differ. You cannot submit multiple versions of the same proposal or variations of the same proposal. All proposals will be considered as individual projects and will require separate invoicing, funding breakdowns and grant funding agreements. You will be expected to submit invoices separately and must be able to demonstrate how monies have been spent for each project. If you submit multiple different proposals and these are successful you will need to ensure that you can deliver all within the timeframes and that they remain separate projects throughout the process.

6. Can I submit additional documents to support my application?

We will only consider the information provided as answers to questions in the application form. However you can expand the boxes of the form and are welcome to include tables, figures and diagrams.

7. Where can I find the terms and conditions?

Please see call information page and grant funding agreement included in the call documentation. Please note that UK Space Agency need to gain assurance on how grant recipients use their grant funding and as a result the Grant Recipient will provide the Authority with independent assurance that the Grant has been used for delivery of the Funded Activities within six months of the end of the project.

For this grant call, to satisfy this requirement the Grant Recipient must either adhere to full terms of the GFA or notify UK Space Agency in advance of a preference to provide a statement showing that the Grant spend has been certified by an appropriately qualified auditor that is also accompanied by the Grant Recipient’s most recent annual audited accounts.

8. Will there be an opportunity to negotiate any terms in the grant funding agreement?

No, you will be expected to comply with the standard UK Space Agency low grant funding agreement terms. Please see the Call Info document which stipulates that you should not apply if you cannot agree to those terms.

9. Why does the Call Info document and FAQ 7 request our most recent annual accounts?

This only applies should you prefer to provide UK Space Agency with a statement showing that the Grant spend has been certified by an appropriately qualified auditor. It helps demonstrate that the business manages its accounts in a manner that is compliant with the full terms of the GFA.

10. Can we bid as a collaboration?

Yes, however only one entity will be awarded the grant and listed on the agreement, the lead would be responsible for distributing between entities and ensuring all terms and conditions are met. There should be clear agreements for the sharing of IPR.

11. Can I have an informal chat with someone before I decide whether to submit a bid?

Yes, but informal conversations will need to be completed by 5pm on 9 June 2023. Please contact us via email to arrange this. uksaeo.climateservices.calls@ukspaceagency.gov.uk
