UK NSC commercial engagement

Published 30 November 2022

1. Overview

The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) uses internationally recognised evidence review criteria to determine if screening for a condition is viable, effective and appropriate.

Horizon scanning principles underpin the UK NSC process for reviewing evidence and the committee proactively searches for new developments in research and technologies.

The UK NSC seeks to engage appropriately with industry in relation to research and technology that could inform its evidence-based screening recommendations.

2. Principles

The UK NSC is an independent committee that acts with impartiality, integrity and objectivity within broad ethical principles. Its values align with the principles of public life, the NHS values and the principles for scientific advice to government.

Committee members publicly declare any private financial, non-financial and indirect interests that may conflict, or be perceived to conflict, with their duties.

All the committee’s interactions with commercial organisations must comply with these principles.

3. Ways of working

The UK NSC aims to build an environment in which it can exchange ideas and knowledge with commercial organisations.

Organisations can register an interest in any of the conditions that the UK NSC regularly reviews. They can then submit responses as stakeholders to UK NSC consultations on any of those conditions.

The UK NSC will hold roundtable events to share with industry its plans and objectives on specific workstreams and technologies.

Details of these information sharing roundtable events will be published on this page.

4. Upcoming events

There are currently no upcoming events.

5. Previous events

On 21 February 2023, the UK NSC held an international information-sharing event on multi-cancer early detection tests (MCEDs).
