The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Skanska Costain Strabag (SCS) Joint Venture.

The application is for a landfill operation at Ruislip Southern Sustainable Placement S2 which will comprise of three mounds: Mound 1, Mound 2, and Mound 3. In total, the detailed design volumes indicate that approximately 453,240m3 of material arisings from the Northolt Tunnels tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be placed to make the mounds. The TBM arisings placed at RSSP will initially be transported through the Waste Transfer and Treatment Station (RSSP-WTS). Treatment of TBM arisings at the RSSP-WTS facility will be required on particular arisings which hold excess moisture, so that they are suitable for placement at RSSP (treatment with the addition of lime). The RSSP mounds will therefore also comprise of treated TBM arisings which will pass through the RSSP-WTS facility.
