The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Amazon Data Services UK Limited.

The scheduled activity is S1.1 A(1) a) - Burning Any Fuel In An Appliance With A Rated Thermal Input Of 50 Or More Megawatts. However, this is a data centre and the variation is to support the addition of activities associated with Energy Centre 2 (EC2), which is currently being constructed. This will double the capacity of the data centre backup generators bringing it up to 224.25 MWth
