Trailers manufactured after 29 October 2012

For trailers over 3,500kgs manufactured after this date, apply for permission to supply a large goods trailer for use on the road. You need to have evidence of type approval.

Once a trailer has been in use for more than a year, book an MOT (annual test).

If it was used outside Great Britain for 12 months or more

If your trailer was manufactured after 29 October 2012 and was used outside of Great Britain for 12 months or more before you apply for a ‘letter of consent’ from DVSA, you also need to book an MOT (annual test) after consent has been issued.

Read the DVSA personal information charter to find out how DVSA collects, uses, stores and shares your personal data.
