Workshop in a box

The government has launched the Timms Review to ensure that PIP is fair and helps support disabled people.

The Workshop in a box is a way to help people and organisations gather and share views from real people on the impact of PIP on their lives.

Feedback from the workshops will be an essential part of the Timms Review. The steering group will discuss insights from workshops at a future meeting to help form the recommendations that will be submitted to the Secretary of State.

The Workshop in a box is being administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on behalf of the Timms Review steering group. The steering group oversee the multi-layered programme of participation and engagement and draw on a broad range of evidence and sources to develop recommendations.

Running a workshop

The Workshop in a box is for anyone who would like to host a workshop, including D/deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations, disability or health charities, community groups and elected representatives.

We have approached a small number of organisations to offer support to deliver accessible workshops with local groups and communities in their networks. These organisations have been identified for their ability to reach individuals and groups who are less likely to engage with government research or public consultations, including those from marginalised or underrepresented communities.

Any financial support provided is limited to covering reasonable costs associated with accessibility and delivery, such as venue hire and support needs, and is not intended as payment for participation.

Workshops can be held in-person or online.

Materials can be adapted for the needs of those attending a workshop. This could include changing what is covered or the timings of a workshop.

Available materials

There are 4 documents to support running a workshop:

  • Workshop in a box slide deck – a slide deck with a suggested template for a 2-hour workshop, which includes questions and prompts
  • facilitator guidance – information for those running workshops, which includes guidance on how to change materials
  • participant information sheet – information on the background of the Timms Review to share with those attending a workshop
  • ‘about you’ form – a form for participants to complete to help capture information about the reach of the Workshop in a box offer

To request other accessible formats, please email timmsreview.workshopinabox@dwp.gov.uk.

Feedback on the Workshop in a box

The steering group would like to hear from you if you have joined or run a workshop.

This will help us learn what works well and what could be done differently to improve the experience of those involved. If you would like to share your views, you can complete the optional feedback form for participants and for facilitators.

An anonymised version of your response may be published in a list of responses, in a summary of responses received, and in any subsequent review reports. We may also share your personal data where required to by law, for example in relation to a request made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
