The Port of Barrow (Closure of Harbour Facilities in part of Ramsden Dock) Harbour Revision Order
On 14 February 2025, Associated British Ports (“the applicant”) made a formal application to the Marine Management Organisation (“MMO”) under Section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for a Harbour Revision Order (“HRO”).
Documents
Details
If made the proposed HRO would close the harbour facilities relating to the former gas condensate works within Ramsden Dock in the Port of Barrow. Upon the closure of the harbour facilities, the area of the former gas condensate works would cease to form part of the Port of Barrow.
All rights duties and obligations imposed on Associated British Ports as a statutory harbour authority under any enactment with respect to or in connection with the former gas condensate works would cease, and any and all rights of navigation in relation to the jetty forming part of the former gas condensate works at Ramsden Dock be extinguished so long as the jetty structure remains in place.
The proposed order would not authorise the construction or alteration of a project or confer development consent. Accordingly, Council Directive 85/337/EEC on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment (as amended) which is codified by Council Directive 2011/92/EU (as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU) does not apply to the proposals and no environmental statement has been supplied.
