Details of the applications

The National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from Hoaroak Water at National Grid Reference (NGR) SS 73890 47675.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 1,368 cubic metres an hour

  • 32,832 cubic metres a day

  • 8,111,145 cubic metres a year

  • All year

The water will be used for hydropower generation using a pair of Turgo turbines.

The National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty has also applied to the Environment Agency for a second licence to obstruct or impede the flow of Hoaroak Water at NGR SS 73890 47675.

By building a low intake weir incorporating a Coanda screen with a 2 millimetres bar spacing water will be impounded to create a head for abstraction.
