This code of practice gives guidance on inspecting street works including:

  • investigatory inspections and works
  • improvement plans
  • fee arrangements
  • reports

Inspections take place when works are:

  • in progress, making sure appropriate signs and barriers are in place to protect workers and road users
  • finished, making sure the site has been properly cleared and the road reinstated to a proper standard

Authorities have legal powers to recover a fee for various types of inspection as set out in The Street Works (Inspection Fees) (England) Regulations 2002.

Appendix E of this document has been replaced by ETON specification version 6.
