Veterinary vaccines are essential medicines which play a key role in protecting animal health and welfare and supporting antimicrobial stewardship.  As such, they also contribute to One Health outcomes, food security and economic growth.

Stakeholder concerns and a recent National Audit Office report on national resilience to animal diseases have highlighted issues concerning veterinary vaccine availability.  The complex, multifactorial nature of these availability issues highlights the need for strategic, multi-stakeholder action.

This Statement of Intent sets out a strategic framework for future cross-sector action to address mismatch in supply and demand for existing vaccines, and to facilitate the pipeline of innovative products to address existing and emerging therapeutic gaps.  It will be followed by collaborative development of a five-year UK action plan by stakeholders from across the animal health sector.
