Details

These standard rules allow you to operate a metal recycling and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) authorised treatment facility at a specified location.

The total quantity of waste that can be accepted at a site under these rules must be less than 75,000 tonnes a year. The rules will not permit the treatment of WEEE containing ozone-depleting substances but it can be accepted for storage only.

  1. We have clarified that you do not have to carry out certain treatments if the WEEE is being prepared for reuse or the operator has taken appropriate measures to ensure its removal.

  2. We updated Standard Rule 2015 No 3: metal recycling and WEEE authorised treatment facility excluding ozone depleting substances and associated Generic Risk Assessment. We made the following changes to the standard rules set; Reduced the annual imput limit to 25,000 tonnes per annum (WEEE only); Reduced the maximum quantity of batteries that can be accepted to 5000 tonnes per annum; Provided clarification to what wastes need to be stored in containers and/or under weatherproof covering; Provided clarity in Table 2.5 and we have prohibited point source emissions to air.

  3. We have updated the interpretation section 4.4 of the standard rule with a revised definition for the term ‘European Site’.
